Good-bye 2007...Hello 2008! Well, another year has come and gone, and HRC is now in it's sixth calendar year of operation. Six years! We've had our ups and downs and gone through many transitions...but I must say I love our current website the most, of course that's mostly due to our overworked and underpaid webmaster, Meister E. I am also happy to announce HRC was nominated for Best Review Site in the Predators & Editors 2007 Poll. Voting commenced on January 1 and ended January 15, 2008. I would like to give a big THANK YOU to all of you, authors, readers & reviewers, who voted for us. As soon as the votes have been tallied and made official, we'll announce HRC's ranking. I would like to wish everyone a happy, healthy, and prosperous New Year!

Bestselling Author, Cassie Edwards is Accused of Plagiarism! Early last week, scandal rocked the Romance Industry, when Yahoo News (news.yahoo.com) reported the review website, Smart Bitches Who Love Trashy Novels, found several examples of plagiarised text in Ms. Edwards' books when compared to various nonfiction sources. According to an article in the New York Times (nytimes.com), Jan. 12, 2008, seven of Ms. Edwards most recent releases contain "lifted" passages. One of the victimized authors, wildlife writer Paul Tolme, struck back at Edwards with an article in Newsweek, 'Move Over Meerkat Manor' (newsweek.com). In the article, Mr. Tolme compared several passages from Ms. Edwards' book, Shadow Bear, with his own published work. He also called Ms. Edwards' prose "standard romance-novel shlock", and called romance novels "trashy". After an outpouring of response from romance writers and readers, Mr. Tolme issued an apology on the Smart Bitches Who Love Trashy Novels blog (smartbitchestrashybooks.com) on Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008, saying "Now let me apologize. I poked fun at the entire genre of romance novels in my story, and that was wrong." He also went on to say that he's been properly "disciplined" and not all romances are "created equal". The allegations of Ms. Cassie Edwards' plagiarism is still under investigation.
