When you have loved someone your entire life, are you able to still love them even knowing that they may never return to you? Absolutely. Alyson of Olverton has shown that even though her true love, Sir Guillelm de la Rochelle, has been away for over seven years fighting battles and conquering new lands, she waits for him in her heart. And although other men have dominated her, physically abused her body and tried to manipulate her feelings, she has held fast waiting for Guillelm to return to her. But when Guillelm is called home to take on his father's duties, new troubles arrive with him. There are those in his troops who will stop at nothing to keep him fighting on, even if it means permanently removing Alyson from his life. Even when they are married at last Alyson is not convinced that the enemy will stay away. She can only hope that all the rest will work itself out.
This story shows that even after years apart, when the boy becomes and man and the girl a woman, the affectionate nicknames still have meaning, the touches are still tender and the feelings genuine. While reading medieval books is never an easy task due to the detailed history that one expects to be part of, these books and especially this one in particular are worth the time and attention you give them. Enjoy!
